Matthew 20:1-16 shows us that we will all receive the same rewards in Heaven which is eternal life and giving glory to God. There are no different rewards in Heaven. If there was different rewards in Heaven, people would be prideful. In addition, if there was different rewards in Heaven, people will be jealous of each other.

Just be glad that you are one of God’s elects. Only God's elects names are written in the book of life. It is impossible for God’s elect’s names to be struck from the book of life. While all of the nonelects’s names, have never been and will never be written in the book of life. (Revelation 13:8)

Question: "What is the Book of Life?"

Answer: Revelation 20:15 declares, “If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.” The Book of Life is the set of names of those who will live with God forever in heaven. It is the roll of those who are saved. This Book of Life is also mentioned in Revelation 3:5; 20:12; and Philippians 4:3. The same book is also called the Lamb’s Book of Life because it contains the names of those who have been redeemed by the blood of the Lord Jesus (Revelation 13:8; 21:27).

How can you be sure your name is written in the Book of Life? Be sure you’re saved. Repent of sin and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior (Philippians 4:3; Revelation 3:5). Once your name is written in the Book of Life, it is never erased (Revelation 3:5; Romans 8:37-39). No true believer should doubt his eternal security in Christ (John 10:28-30).

The Great White Throne Judgment described in Revelation 20:11-15 is a judgment for unbelievers. That passage makes it clear that no one at that judgment has his name in the Book of Life (Revelation 20:12-14). Since their names are not in the Book of Life, their fate is sealed, their punishment is sure.

Some people point to Revelation 3:5 as “proof” that a person can lose his salvation. However, the promise of Revelation 3:5 is clearly that the Lord will not erase a name: “He who overcomes . . . I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life.” An overcomer is one who is victorious over the temptations, trials, and evils of this world—in other words, one who is redeemed. The saved are written in God’s registry and have the promise of eternal security.

1 John 2:19 shows us that the people that “went out from us” are nonelects when they were physically born and its impossible for them to receive the Holy Spirit because God won’t give it to them.

Another passage over which confusion sometimes arises is Psalm 69:28: “Let them [David’s enemies] be blotted out of the book of the living.” This “book of the living” should not be confused with the Lamb’s Book of Life. Question: "Is eternal security biblical?"

Answer: When people come to know Christ as their Savior, they are brought into a relationship with God that guarantees their eternal security. Jude 24 declares, "To Him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before His glorious presence without fault and with great joy." God's power is able to keep the believer from falling. It is up to Him, not us, to present us before His glorious presence. Our eternal security is a result of God keeping us, not us maintaining our own salvation.

The Lord Jesus Christ proclaimed, "I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand" (John 10:28-29b). Both Jesus and the Father have us firmly grasped in their hand. Who could possibly separate us from the grip of both the Father and the Son?

Ephesians 4:30 tells us that believers are "sealed for the day of redemption." If believers did not have eternal security, the sealing could not truly be unto the day of redemption, but only to the day of sinning, apostasy, or disbelief. John 3:15-16 tells us that whoever believes in Jesus Christ will "have eternal life." If a person were to be promised eternal life, but then have it taken away, it was never "eternal" to begin with. If eternal security is not true, the promises of eternal life in the Bible would be in error.

The most powerful argument for eternal security is Romans 8:38-39, "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Our eternal security is based on God's love for those whom He has redeemed. Our eternal security is purchased by Christ, promised by the Father, and sealed by the Holy Spirit.

In Revelation 20:11-15, the people are judged “according to what they had done as recorded in the books” (Revelation 20:12). All the people at this judgment, though, are thrown into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:13-15). So, perhaps, the purpose of the judgment is to determine how severe the punishment in hell will be. Whatever the case, being thrown into a slightly less hot portion of the lake of fire is no consolation to those who are still doomed for eternity. Whatever degrees of punishment hell contains, it is clear that hell is a place to be avoided.

Unfortunately, the Bible states that most people will wind up in hell. “…For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it” (Matthew 7:13-14). The question one must ask is “which road am I on?” The “many” on the broad road have one thing in common—they have all rejected Christ as the one and only way to heaven. Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). When He said He is the only way, that is precisely what He meant. Everyone following another “way” beside Jesus Christ is on the broad road to destruction, and whether or not there are different levels of punishment in hell, the suffering is hideous, dreadful, eternal, and avoidable.

Are there different levels of hell and degrees of sin?

Biblically, there seems to be definite teaching that there are different levels of hell - at least in the sense that there are various degrees of punishment. The Bible does not specifically mention higher or lower levels of hell in the location sense, but it does allude to degrees of punishment and sins:

1. More Tolerance for Certain Sins

A. Matthew 10:15, "Truly I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city."

B. Matthew 11:23-24, “And you, Capernaum, will not be exalted to heaven, will you? You will descend to Hades; for if the miracles had occurred in Sodom which occurred in you, it would have remained to this day. 24 “Nevertheless I say to you that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for you."

C. Luke 10:13-14, "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles had been performed in Tyre and Sidon which occurred in you, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. 14 But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment than for you," (cf. Luke 10:7-12).

I. The implication of those above three passages is that there is a greater punishment for rejecting Jesus than there is for even the most atrocious sins in the Old Testament.

2. Greater Punishment

A. Matthew 23:14, "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense you make long prayers; therefore you will receive greater condemnation," (cf. Mark 12:40; Luke 20:47).

B. Luke 12:47-48, "And that slave who knew his master’s will and did not get ready or act in accord with his will, will receive many lashes, 48 but the one who did not know it, and committed deeds worthy of a flogging, will receive but few. From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more."

i. This passage appears to indicate that the greater our knowledge, the greater our responsibility. Also, it indicates the greater our punishment if we fail in our responsibility (this is in relation to unbelievers).

3. Greater Sin

A. John 19:11, "...for this reason he who delivered Me to you has the greater sin."

I. Jesus specifically attributes Judas's betrayal as a greater sin than Pontius Pilate's.

We all have that emptiness, when we were physically born because we were separated from God by birth. The things of this world will never satisfy us and is all vanity, no matter how much we have. For example: Going to a friend's house for years, but still not satisfied. Buying something new, but still not satisfied and the list continues. The reason why most of the things of this world will never satisfy us is because most of the things of this world are sins. The things of this world are temporary and are fading away. But God is forever. Read 1 John 2:15-17.

-That emptiness is permanently satisfied, when God gives his chosen ones the Holy Spirit and being reunited with God.

The bottom was a discussion I had with a pastor I know.

Hell is an English word for the general temporal place of punishment until the final judgment. Hades is a Hebrew word, for a more a resting place of death. It refers to what we call Hell.

What do you mean by "more a resting place of death."?

It is not specific as to a place. It is a more general term but basically they are the same place.

Why do some people use Hades instead of Hell? Is it to make it a different meaning?

Because often they are trying to claim that Hell is not in the Bible but they have to change the meaning of Hades to do so.

And what is the change that they want Hades to be?

Death not a place, but just a reference to death which they claim but is not true.

Hades, Sheol and Gehenna are three different Hebrew words and have a different focus but basically what we call Hell.

Hell=Hades=Sheol=Gehenna

Why is it that Atheists say Gehenna and not Hell? Is it to change its meaning also?

They say it, to change its meaning in order to deny the whole existence of Hell.

Atheists use the words Hades, Sheol and Gehenna that few people know, in order to deny the word Hell which most people know as everlasting fire.

If Satan and his angels have been cast out of heaven, and they have been cast into Tartarus, and they have been cast on this earth, and they have been cast into the “Bottomless Pit”, and they have been bound with chains of darkness, but nevertheless they are still able to roam around and deceive those who have not the seal of God in their foreheads, what does that tell us about the location of the Bottomless Pit?

Jesus drank the cup of the wrath of God (Jesus went through Hell, spiritually) when he was on the cross, in order to pay for all of God's elects's sin debts and punishments in Hell. The top Hell verses that I just mentioned is what Jesus had to go through. Now you know why God's elects are willing to suffer and be persecuted for Jesus's sake. God's elects sufferings are nothing, compared to what Jesus Christ had to go through. Jesus started drinking the cup of the wrath of God, when he said "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" (Matthew 27:46 and Mark 15:34) Then he endured Hell, the above Hell verses is what he had to endure spiritually. Jesus finished drinking the cup of the wrath of God when he said "It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost." (John 19:30)
